This year, Jazz Winnipeg has partnered with Alliance Française du Manitoba to bring an incredibly special artist to the city for the the TD Winnipeg International Jazz festival. Internationally praised French saxophonist Guillaume Perret will perform at the West End Cultural Centre on Sunday, June 24.

Perret is the consummate DIY man, custom-making what he needs to make the sounds. This saxophonist has always enjoyed tampering with instruments, and for this solo venture, he took that knack to a whole ‘nother level. With a single instrument juiced up with sound modifiers, he manages to be the whole band. Mirroring his ability to get a world of sound from a single instrument, his compositions roam just as erratically: folk tunes, frenetic Balkan dance numbers, electronic sonic, laments, dense sound walls, and a little Saint-Vitus hot-foot.

“As a partner in this international music event, Alliance Française du Manitoba is proud to support arts and culture in Winnipeg,” says executive director of Alliance Française du Manitoba, Alan Nobili. “Year after year, Jazz Winnipeg offers a wonderful experience to Manitobans. This year, we co-present Guillaume Perret, a brilliant young French saxophonist but, above all, an authentic sound explorer that will make us enjoy new musical sensations. This is a large part of our mission to offer the best of French arts and culture to the Manitoban audience.”
