The University of Lorraine is recruiting a post-doctoral researcher in social sciences for a 14-months contract (September 2020 – November 2021)  in the context of the international colloquium on scientific and technical culture Science & You (November 15-19, 2021 – Metz).

Indeed, the University of Lorraine wishes to collect new data in the framework of the survey “French public attitudes to science” (“Les attitudes du public français face à la science“); this survey represents the world’s longest uninterrupted series of data on public opinion towards science.


Science & You is an international event of scientific mediation organized by the University of Lorraine, composed of four complementary parts:

  • a colloquium: “les Journées Hubert Curien” (Hubert Curien Days), about science and its stakes on our societies – 700 professionals from all over the world are expected;
  • a training on scientific mediation for 80 international French-speaking postgraduates;
  • a professional fair for partners, discussions focused on entrepreneurship, research and innovation
  • a series of events for the general public organized in the Grand Est region, with artificial intelligence as the main theme


Under the responsibility of Marieke Stein, the selected participant will be in charge of the following missions:

  • Mission 1: Analysis of quantitative data from the survey “French public attitudes to science” conducted in September 2020 by a polling company
  • Mission 2: Benchmarking of 2020 data against data from previous editions of the survey (1972, 1982, 1989, 1994, 2000, 2007 and 2011)
  • Mission 3: Setting up, conducting and analyzing individual and/or group interviews in the Grand Est region, to complete and enhance the data collected from the survey;
  • Mission 4: Produce a research report
