On April 3, 2018, on the occasion of BC Minister of Education Mr. Fleming’s visit to Paris, the two ministers signed a letter of intent in order to strengthen their cooperation in education. This letter replaces a previous one signed in 2016 and highlights the signatories’ joint commitment to find solutions in order to meet the demands of French immersion education.

British Columbia and France are committed to promoting and implementing activities and projects for students, teachers and management at the elementary and secondary levels. The signatory parties would like to develop exchange programs for teachers to ensure their professional development and to increase their awareness of global issues in education.

In regard to student mobility, the letter supports the creation of partnerships between educational institutions in order to promote intercultural dialogue and provide a better learning experience to students. The presence of representatives of the Académie d’Aix-Marseille, the Académie de Grenoble and l’Université de Tours is evidence of the shared concern of the two parties involved in these twinning projects.
